In 2003, I wrote this to explain what kind of website Andedräkt was:
“Andedräkt is a community for those who like to read and write so called online diaries. Focus is on the human meetings and tales from the everyday life, but also partly about the written word.”
It didn’t have a lot of users, and it was never the point. It was a spare time passion project that I created when a few of my favorite bloggers was thrown out from their previous platform. These kind of websites was popular in a time when creators wanted to publish stories, but it was still hard to find content that was self-hosted. Andedräkt let people discover new friends, and guaranteed a steady flow of readers for those who were publishing content.
…
The site was written in PHP and MySQL and featured a cache backend, and an admin system where authors could manage their posts, as well as comments, analyze visitor traffic, etc.
“Andedräkt” is one of my top favorite words in Swedish. It means “breath”, but the literal meaning is “spirit costume” – the way it looks like when you breathe out on a cold swedish winter day.
